Crave Man

Very interesting article from the Washington post on how an MD, JD former head of the FDA went searching through fast food waste bins in the deep of the night to help discover why we overeat:

  1. I don't agree with his approach. You cannot avoid the stimulus to eat the environment. It is everywhere. The best way to deal with it is to acknowledge the stimulus. At that point it will subside.

  2. I went and bought the book. It's called The End of Overeating. I'm about halfway through and it's fantastic. It's well written and accessible to both the general public as well as the clinician. Particularly interesting are the studies relating to the psychology of eating and how they relate to brain physiology. The insights about the food industry are highly enlightening. I can never look at food the same way again.
